IPL - FAQ
What is IPL?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) photorejuvenation uses different wavelengths of light to correct a variety of common skin concerns. IPL delivers light in short pulses so it can shatter unwanted pigmentation, including redness from rosacea and sun spots. IPL also effectively smooths fine skin lines and mild scarring.
IPL treatments are noninvasive and safe for most skin types.
Why should I consider IPL?
If you come to Balle Bliss Luxury Medical Spa, Dr. Sohal may recommend IPL if you’re bothered by any of the following skin complaints:
- Hyperpigmentation
- Visible blood vessels
- Rosacea and redness
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage such as spots and freckles
- Age spots
Dr. Sohal can help you determine if IPL or another skin intervention is right for your goals.
Do IPL treatments hurt?
Most people tolerate IPL treatments well, but you do feel a mild sting as the light energy hits your skin. The sensation is similar to that of a rubber band snapping against you. You will wear dark glasses during treatment to protect your eyes.
If you’re concerned about discomfort, talk to Dr. Sohal about using an anesthetic cream prior to treatment.
When will I notice the results of IPL treatments?
Clients are often pleased with the results achieved after just one IPL session, but most people benefit from a series of 3-6 sessions. These are scheduled about one month apart.
The benefits of IPL gradually show up over time as collagen and elastin production accelerates in response to the light energy. Your body needs time to develop this collagen and build skin strength and resiliency.
Should I schedule downtime following IPL treatments?
You need to wear sunscreen diligently on areas treated with IPL for several weeks following a session because your skin is extra sensitive to UV rays. Plan to go back to most of your regular activities right after treatment, but you need to avoid exfoliants, acne treatments, chlorinated pools, and hot baths and saunas. The team at Balle Bliss Luxury Medical Spa gives you thorough aftercare instructions.
