When the body stores fat, genetics often determine where it ends up. It can often collect in places such as the belly, the chin, or the flanks where it can take away from the toned look that many people are working towards.

When your efforts to get rid of excess fat result in overall weight loss but don’t result in a visible change to these stubborn areas, you may start to look for treatments that can directly target the fat on your thighs, flanks, belly, or chin. CoolSculpting provides an effective way to reduce stubborn fat in all of these areas and more.

At Balle Bliss Luxury Medical Spa in Cypress, TX, we offer body contouring services using CoolSculpting. If you are looking for a body sculpting solution, CoolSculpting may be a good place to start.

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a treatment that takes advantage of a process called cryolipolysis to break down fat cells. This device freezes the fat cells, causing them to die and be eliminated by the body. It is an FDA-approved, non-invasive treatment that treats localized pockets of fat with limited downtime and discomfort.

What Areas Can Be Treated With CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting can be applied to a wide variety of areas on the body as long as they have an inch of pinchable fat. Common areas to treat with CoolSculpting include:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Inner and Outer Thighs
  • Upper Arms
  • Submental Area (Double Chin)
  • Back and Bra Area
  • Banana Roll (Under the Buttocks)

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

The term cryolipolysis refers to the freezing of fat to break it down. Because fat cells are more sensitive to the cold than other tissues such as the skin and muscles, this process works well. The CoolSculpting device cools the treatment area to a specific temperature that causes fat cell death, or apoptosis, without harming any of the surrounding tissues.

After the fat cells have been treated, your body will do the rest of the work. In the weeks following your treatment, your body will transport the waste through the lymphatic system and eliminate the remnants of your stubborn fat, now broken down into something known as lipids, from your body. This process is gradual, and it is gentle on the body since your body is already designed to process lipids from dietary fat.

How Effective Is CoolSculpting?

For the right patient, CoolSculpting can be an extremely effective treatment. During each CoolSculpting session, the average patient loses between 20% and 25% of the fat cells in the area being treated. CoolSculpting results can increase with additional treatments.

The effectiveness of any treatment can be variable based on individual factors. These factors can include your body and your fat distribution. If you have pockets of localized fat, it may be more effective than if your fat is more dispersed throughout the area.

The effectiveness can also depend on the number of treatments you have performed. Most people have between one and three treatments for each area that they want to target.

The sustained effectiveness of results also depends on your level of fitness and your commitment to weight maintenance after the treatment. Since fat cells still remain in the area, they are subject to weight fluctuations. Staying active and nourishing your body with healthy foods can help ensure the effectiveness of your treatments long-term.

What to Expect During and After CoolSculpting Treatments

When you arrive for your treatment, we will position you comfortably in a treatment chair and mark the area to be treated. Next, we will apply a gel pad to help protect your skin. When CoolSculpting your belly or other bigger areas, we will place a larger applicator on the site. When CoolSculpting your chin, a smaller device is used to comfortably target this area.

The applicator uses gentle vacuum technology to pull the tissue into the applicator where it begins to cool the fat. The area will feel cold, and you may feel some tingling, aching, or stinging, which often fades quickly as the area becomes numb. When the applicators are removed, we will gently massage the area.

After the treatment, you might still have some numbness or tingling. However, you won’t need to have any downtime after the treatment as these sensations are typically mild and will fade over time. You can expect to start seeing results after three weeks, though it may take several months before you see your full CoolSculpting results.

Can CoolSculpting Help With Weight Loss?

CoolSculpting treatments should not be considered a weight loss treatment. Even though it does effectively reduce fat, it isn’t a significant enough amount to bring you to your goal weight unless you are already within a few pounds. The purpose of CoolSculpting is to create better contours by flattening out small areas of the body. This treatment is recommended for those who have already reached their target weight or who are very close.
